Studying at ESME Sudria
The School
For nearly a century, since 1905, the ESME Sudria has been training engineers in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, and Computer Engineering.
The curriculum of the school, which is taught in French, has evolved significantly over the years: it covers the full range of technologies from electrical power to the management of complex systems and intelligent networks.
The urban campus of the ESME Sudria is on the doorsteps of Paris in Ivry-sur-Seine (two kilometers from inner Paris). Currently situated on 7,500 m², the campus includes:
- laboratories (4500 m²) 38 rue Molière,
- classrooms (2500 m²) 65 bd de Brandebourg
at Ivry, right on the RER C (express subway) and only 3 stations from Boulevard Saint Michel. These modern premises include lecture rooms, self-access laboratories, and a cafeteria.
The administration offices are located 38 rue Molière.
New campuses in 2012
In Lille and Lyon
In September 2012, ESME Sudria will create new campuses in Lille and Lyon. Students will have the possibility to spend the first three years there before pursuing in Paris for the last two years. Therefore, the school will get closer to the future engineers and allowing them to study in better conditions while settling in cities renowned for their dynamism.
In Paris-Montparnasse
Also in September 2012, the school will open a new campus in a 2,000m² building in the heart of the Montparnasse district of Paris, by the fascinating complex of the Pasteur Institute and its world famous innovation center. Within the city life, this new campus will ease the life of the students in an exceptional environment.
Enterprise
ESME Sudria is permanently in contact with the corporate world, in various ways:
- The « Improvement Advisory Committee », which evaluates the evolution of the teaching programmes, and establishes the syllabus orientation for the two future years, is composed of forty Company Directors.
- 40% of the faculty are members of the corporate world, specialists in their respective subjects, which they teach to final year students.
- Research contracts are accomplished in the school laboratories through the ESME Sudria R&D.
There is a service in the school dedicated to enterprise relations. It manages the training periods, first employment, and job placement for experienced engineers in collaboration with the Alumni association.
This same service is also in charge of events such as :
Research
The Electrical Engineering Department
The Energy Conversion Department develops complete systems in current research concerning railroad transport with the SNCF, electrical vehicles with Groupe PSA (Peugeot-Citroën), actuators for aeronautics and industrial robotics including:
- Vectorial command of synchronous and asynchronous motors;
- Active filtering and sinusoidal current absorbing;
- Implementing command layers based on artificial intelligence techniques such as neural networks or fuzzy logic.
The ESME-Sudria Symposium and Research Projects
Before the end-of-studies internship, research projects are done by the students under the guidance of professors and researchers, in partnership with companies. These projects are presented to an audience of students, parents and professionals at the ESME Symposium. The best projects are selected by the ESME Engineers Association.
Internships and Employment
Internship and Employment offers are centralized by a special department in the school, which maintains a link between the students and the business world, in collaboration with the ESME Engineers Association.
Internship offers addressed to the school are immediately posted on the Intranet.
ESME Sudria students are required to do a four-week minimum internship for each year of studies, with the exception of the final year, when the internship lasts five months, starting mid-April.

Every year new and interesting groups are formed, adding to the cultural and intellectual development of the students.
- Bureau des élèves (students office)
- Olympique Sudria Association Sportive : rugby, football, volleyball, tennis, basketball, table tennis, horse riding, combats, golf, fencing, handball, bike riding ...
- CP2A (aeronautics and car engineering)
- IDEES (humanitarian / Madagascar)
- G.E.R.S. (Junior-entrepreneurship)
- Sudriabotik (robotics)
- Club Manga (library)
- Eight Club (billards)
Continuing studies after Graduation
Some graduates every year wish to complete their scientific studies by a specialized formation in management or finance. This formation, in most cases part of a professional project, is done in very famous and prestigious establishments such as : ESSEC, ESCP-EAP, HEC, EM Lyon, EDHEC MBA.
ESME Alumni
The ESME Alumni, the « Association des Ingénieurs de l'ESME-Sudria » (AIESME) counts as members nearly 10,000 ESME engineers in 350 sectors of activity in 40 countries.
Its main activities are the following :
- The Service Emploi-Carrières (Employment and Career services)
- The annual employment and salary survey
- Endorsement of students and promotions.
It publishes a magazine « ROND POINT » regularly.
Conference debates
The AIESME, which is very active, not only ensures the contact between old graduates through cultural, intellectual and free time activities, but also wishes to share the experience of its members with the students. It organizes conference debates on the profession of engineer throughout the year in the school, invites students to its monthly club meeting, and is represented at all the school conferences or forums.
Prize for the Best Project
Every year the AIESME awards the Prize for the Best Research Project after the public presentation of end-of-studies projects at the Symposium. In the interest of its members, and to provide better service, the AIESME operates from the « Maison des Ingénieurs ESME Sudria », pleasant modern premises situated in the Gobelins district, not far from the ESME Sudria campus.
